Education Director: Full time salaried position

The Education Director provides opportunities for faith development and encourages growth in the spiritual life of the members of the congregation. This staff person is a leader and teacher in contact with all congregational members and an advocate for education within the structure of the congregation.

The Education Director is under the direct supervision of the senior pastor and works with Faith Family Ministry, Confirmation Ministry, and St. John’s Christian Preschool.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Science Degree
Experience in the area of youth ministry / faith development / education
Ability to clearly articulate central Lutheran doctrinal understandings

Areas of Responsibility:

1. Coordination of Faith Education
Sunday School	Classes for three year olds through middle school
Confirmation	Classes for 5th through 10th grade youth
Vacation Bible School	Week-long summer Bible school for four year olds through 5th grade
Bible Studies	Young Adult Bible Study, Adult Bible Studies, etc.
Milestone Ministry	Kindergarten Bible storybook classes Fourth grade study Bible classes First Communion Classes Baptism classes Blessing of the Backpacks

2. Coordination of Youth & Family Activities
Summer Camps	Luther Park day / week camps
Confirmation Retreats	Luther Park weekend retreats
Fall Family Retreat	Annual October family retreat
Youth Mission Trip(s)	Middle and/or high school trip(s)
Service Projects	Fall school kits, etc
Activities	Lock-ins, 30 hour famine, etc.

3. Coordination of Resources
Library	Resources related to life and faith issues in adult and children’s library
Nursery	Child care provided during all Sunday and special services
Family Resource Center	Materials available for purchase
Web Site	Help webmaster keep education-related areas of the site up-to-date

As a member of the program staff, the Education Director will be expected to:

Participate in community worship on a weekly basis
Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings
Attend monthly ministry meetings of Faith Family Ministry
Attend confirmation ministry meetings
Attend monthly church council meetings
Attend annual planning and leadership retreats and workshops
Prepare reports for the council meetings
Prepare annual report detailing activities of the year for all areas of responsibility
Prepare articles for the newsletter and/or bulletins

As program administrator of Faith Family and Confirmation Ministries, the Education Director will be expected to:

Coordinate recruitment and training of Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Confirmation volunteer staff
Provide for adequate staffing during Sunday School, Confirmation, and Vacation Bible School
Work with the Faith Family Ministry and Confirmation Ministry in preparation of the annual budget
Assist in the selection of appropriate curriculum that is in line with the Lutheran teachings and traditions
Maintain adequate teaching and learning resources and supplies
Coordinate the record keeping of Sunday School attendance, offerings, teachers, birth dates, baptism dates, and other information as necessary
Coordinate special learning and fellowship opportunities for all ages (e.g. Advent Event, First Communion classes, Lenten midweek activities)
Provide for recognition of Sunday School teachers, station leaders, and small group leaders
Be available as an instructor and resource to the pastors and congregation on matters relating to faith development
