The following are just some examples of local opportunities to volunteer at St. John’s.
Hope Gospel Mission Bargain Center Community Volunteers meets the 1st Tuesday of the month from 5-8 p.m. The Mission Bargain Center is located on the corner of Moholt Dr. and Clairemont Ave. The community volunteers do everything from sorting, pricing, stocking shelves, hanging out clothing, etc. Volunteers come and go on their own according to the time they have to donate.
St. Francis Food Pantry Community Volunteers meets the 2nd Thursday of the month from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The pantry is located on Truax Blvd. across from May’s Floral Garden. The community volunteers at this site help stock shelves, fill grocery carts for individuals, sort through produce and package items for distribution. It is a great opportunity to give back to the community and those in need.
Community Table volunteers meet the 3rd Thursday of every month from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., when they plan, prepare and serve a community meal.
St. John’s Quilters meet the first & last Wednesdays of each month from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. They welcome all women who like to quilt or you can just cut squares for the quilts. Some of the places they have distributed the quilts are Bolton Refuge House, Lutheran World Relief, and Luther Park Bible Camp.
The Prayer Shawl Group is members of St. John’s who pray and stitch on their own blending prayers, talents, gifts and grace into beautiful prayer shawls. Prayer shawls are given to those in need of prayer and love to comfort, console and strengthen. A prayer shawl is intended to be a reminder of God’s ever-present love.
Weekend Kids' Meals Program (WKMP) Volunteers pack bags of food three times each year at Feed My People Food Pantry for students at Locust Lane Elementary School to take home.
